Who We Are
Sarah Myers McGinty is the founder of McGinty Consulting Group. She is an acknowledged expert in the writing of application essays, appearing on multiple occasions on NPR and in magazines and newspapers, including the Wall Street Journal and the Chronicle of Higher Education. She began her career in secondary teaching and then served as associate director of admissions at Sarah Lawrence College, in Bronxville, NY. She has taught at Harvard since 1993.
Her books include Writing Your College Application Essay, (1986, 1991, Japanese edition 1993), 50 College Admission Directors Speak to Parents, co-authored with Sandra MacGowan (HBJ, 1987), and The College Application Essay (College Board, 1997, 2004). She received the National Association of College Admission Counseling 2002 Writers' Award for research on the essay process of students in large, urban high schools.

Tim Donovan established Donovan Strategies in 1997 to help athletes and their
families navigate the recruiting process to find the right college program. He has helped place
athletes at over 60 colleges and universities throughout the country in Divisions I, II, and III.
A graduate of Brown University, he was the two-time Ivy League tennis player of the year and played
professionally on the ATP tour for four years, attaining a top 300 world ranking in singles. Tim
also coached men's varsity tennis at Harvard University.

Timothy B. Lee, Ed.M., Director of Educational Services and Certified Educational Planner, has guided young people to make informed educational decisions for three decades. At Advocates for Human Potential (AHP)*, he serves independent school clients, college-bound students, and those who seek special needs planning. Before joining AHP, Tim was Associate Director of Admissions and Placement Advisor at two leading New England independent schools. He also worked as a teacher, dormitory head, coach, and tutor for students with learning differences. Tim graduated from Harvard College and received a Master's degree in adolescent development from the Harvard Graduate School of Education.

Mary Mansfield, M.Ed., Educational Consultant and Certified Education Planner, has more than twenty years of experience in educational admissions and consulting. At AHP*, her focus is on placement of at-risk teens. Before starting her own educational consulting practice in 1995, she was the Director of Admissions at Wheelock College. Mary has also worked as a career consultant at a career counseling firm in Boston, as a reading consultant in the Philadelphia schools, as a reading specialist in a school for children with special needs, and as an elementary school teacher in Newton. Mary holds a B.S. in elementary education from Wheelock College and and advanced degree in psychology of reading from Temple University. |

Lisa Ratmansky is an educational consultant and a specialist in the creation of personal statements and application essays. She began her teaching career at the Universtiy of Pennsylvania and presently teaches in the Expository Writing Program at Princeton University. She has taught courses in writing, sociology, and linguistics. |

Beverly Crawford is a testing specialist and teacher with extensive experience in verbal-skills coaching. She consults to the Rivers School and to Groton Academy in testing issues and coaches test-preparation teachers at Lesley College. She has created her own test-preparation materials for a variety of standardized testing preparations.

Each year AHP's educational consultants visit campuses and programs across the country to gain firsthand, intimate knowledge of these institutions.
